Trim & Doors
A hundred-year-old door does not need another coat.
Six layers of failing paint on an original panel door is a restoration job, not a painting job. The door comes back to the shop, gets stripped back to bare wood, repaired where the stiles and rails have opened up, sanded and then finished properly. What you keep is the panel profile and the joinery, which is the part a modern replacement door does not have at any price.
On trim the principle is the same. Caulk that has failed gets cut out and redone rather than skimmed over, which is the shortcut that causes the hairline crack to reappear by spring. Nail holes are filled and sanded flush. The line where casing meets wall is cut by hand. It is the part of a room people run their eyes along without ever thinking about it, and the part that gives away a rushed job in about a second.
Doors come off their hinges and get finished on both faces and all four edges, including the top edge nobody sees, because that is where moisture gets in. Hardware comes off rather than getting taped. If you have a door in a garage somewhere that you would rather save than replace, that is the job she likes most.

Arriving, and stripped back to bare wood. Nothing new goes on until it looks like the second photo.
In their words
The gym singled out the trim.
KJ Painting & Finishing has given our gym an incredible facelift, and we couldn't be happier with the results. What really sets her apart is her eye for detail and restoration. She has repainted the majority of our gym and has beautifully restored and refreshed so many aspects of our walls, trim, and finishing details.
Fitness Plus is a commercial job, and the trim and finishing details are what they singled out.
Questions
The ones that come up on a trim and doors estimate.
Indiana does not issue a statewide painting contractor license, so there is no license number to check here. KJ Painting & Finishing LLC carries liability insurance and a certificate is available on request before work starts. Insurance and references are the two things worth asking any painter in this state for.
Is it cheaper to refinish an old door or buy a new one?
A hollow-core replacement is cheaper. A solid door of the same quality as the one you have is usually not, once you add the casing work to make a new slab fit an old opening. If the door is original to the house, refinishing almost always wins on both cost and result.
Can you match trim in one room to the rest of the house?
Yes. She will take a piece of the existing trim, match the sheen as well as the color, and feather the new work into the old at a corner rather than stopping it mid-wall. Sheen is the thing most mismatches come down to, not color.
How do I get an estimate?
Request one through the form on this site or call (219) 533-3220. Kennedie walks the space with you, looks at what condition the surfaces are actually in, and sends a written estimate. Estimates are free and there is no charge for the visit.
